THERE WAS A COUNTRY
The late Professor Chinua Achebe in his book THERE WAS A COUNTRY discussed corruption in Nigeria; the promotion of mediocrity by Nigerian government under the guise of 'Federal character'; he established pogrom of Igbos before and during the Nigerian/Biafran war (1966 to 1970); the selfish involvement of the Governments of Britian and Russia in aiding and abating crime of genocide with the blockade of Biafra while executing the policy of 'Starving them to death' which resulted to the death of thousands of children and the elderly. The book exposed the Nigerian Army execution of non combatant boys, women and men. The organized rape of Briafran women by the Nigerian soldiers. Rather than address the key issues Professor Chinua Achebe raised in this book, most Nigerians say he should not have written the book. Why?
